Week 11: When I Didn’t Give My All to Love Others

Day 2 Bible Reading: Romans 15:4-13

Taking the Time

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him (V.13).

“No! No! NO!” I shouted. It didn’t help. Not one bit. I hadn’t realised the toilet was blocked. Then I flushed. I watched helplessly as the water overflowed onto the bathroom floor.

How many times have we tried to pour a drink and spilled it everywhere? Or opened an exploding bottle of soft drink, forgetting that it’s been shaken about in our bag on the way home?

Spills are almost never a good thing. But one example might be different. Paul uses the image of overflowing to describe people so full of God’s Spirit that what keeps spilling out of them is hope—or confidence—in God (ROM. 15:13). I love that picture of being so filled up with joy, peace and love that it just has to come out!

This sounds OK when things in our lives are going well. But even when we get ‘fizzed up’ like a shaken bottle of soft drink, hopefully what spills out of us is the love and peace of knowing Jesus!

To Pray About . . .

Father, help us pour out love and peace that others can’t help but be amazed by.

WHEN WE GET SHAKEN UP, LET’S MAKE SURE IT’S GOD’S LOVE THAT SPILLS OVER.
