Week 6: When I Can’t Let Go Of What I Should

Day 5 Bible Reading: Matthew 5:38-45

Getting Even

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone (ROMANS 12:18).

One Sunday morning, a church leader was punched by a man when he got up to give the sermon. The police came and arrested the man. But the leader went down to the police station and offered to pray with him. What a great example of reacting to anger with love and kindness!

While there is a place for self-defence, revenge is a big no-no in the Bible: “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbour as yourself” (LEV. 19:18). Jesus and His followers also taught the same message (MATT. 5:38-45).

We need to avoid hurting those who hurt us because it never brings an end to the pain. May we live at peace with everyone (ROM. 12:18), ask for help from our church when we’re butting heads with others (1 COR. 6:1-6) and trust God to bring justice in His perfect timing (V.19).

To Pray About . . .

Father, it’s not easy to be kind to those who hurt me, but I know it’s the best way I can show You to them.

OUR JOB IS TO LOVE IN THE WAY JESUS SHOWED US.
