Week 6: When I Can’t Let Go Of What I Should

Day 4 Bible Reading: Philippians 2:1-11

Humility

The greatest among you will be your servant (MATTHEW 23:11).

If you had to write down a list of things you wanted to be better at, what would it include? Sport? Maths? Making friends?

How about humility? It’s probably not the first thing we think of. But, as Christians, we should want to grow in humility because that’s how Jesus lived. Even though He is God, and everything is His, Jesus chose to give it all up for us. He chose to go to the cross so that through His death He might “lift [us] up” into new life when we humbly trust Him (1 PET. 5:5-7).

We copy Jesus’ humility when we want to live for our heavenly Father rather than ourselves. Jesus’ kindness helps us see how good it is to look out for the needs of others. Aiming for humility isn’t easy in our ‘me first’ world. But as we find our security in Jesus’ love, He will give us everything we need to follow Him.
