Day 4 Bible Reading: Matthew 6:25-34
Learning To Trust
When I was a teenager I sometimes argued with my mum when she talked to me about God. “Trust Him. He will take care of you,” she would tell me. “It’s not that simple, Mum!” I would shout back. “God helps those who help themselves!”
But those words, “God helps those who help themselves” are nowhere to be found in the Bible. Instead, it teaches us to rely on Him for everything, like the birds in the air which our heavenly Father feeds (MATT. 6:26-27).
Everything we enjoy, have and do—even when we’re just getting on with normal, everyday life—are gifts from a heavenly Father who loves us and values us more than we can possibly understand.
As Mum neared the end of her life with Alzheimer’s, her trust in God stayed strong. During those last months, I was given a ‘front-row seat’ to see God meet her needs in unexpected ways—ways that proved she had been right all along.
Instead of worrying, she simply trusted the One who promised to take care of her. And He showed Himself to be faithful.
