Week 3: When I Carry My Own Guilt

Day 5 Bible Reading: Philippians 1:19-26

Looking Forward

I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far (V.23).

Whenever my family gets ready to go on holiday, we like to read about where we’re going. We go through hotel reviews, look up things to do, find out how sunny it will be, study local maps, etc.

If we trust Jesus, we have an even better place to look forward to—heaven. But sometimes we don’t seem very excited about getting there. Why? Maybe it’s because we don’t understand heaven.

Some Christians talk about streets of gold, pearly gates and lots of singing, but what is it really like? I think the most powerful image of heaven is found in Paul’s words to the Philippians. He said that to “depart and be with Christ” is “better by far” (PHIL. 1:23).

Think about the most exciting thing in your life. Maybe it’s a relationship, the friends you’re making, some big family news. Whatever it is, being with Jesus in heaven is “better by far”!

Heaven may be hard to imagine. But all we really need to know is that, compared to anything we enjoy here on earth, heaven will definitely be better.

To Pray About . . .

Jesus, thank You for preparing a place in heaven for me and wanting me to live in Your home forever

LOOKING FORWARD TO HEAVEN BEGINS WITH LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING WITH JESUS.
