Week 3: When I Carry My Own Guilt

Day 2 Bible Reading: Isaiah 6:1-8

Holy Love

They were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory” (V.3).

Many churches focus on the love and goodness of God, but not many think about His holiness. Why? The reason is: when we catch a glimpse of God’s greatness and glory, we see more clearly our own problems and mess. And that’s hard to take!

We get a picture of this in the gospel of Luke. After seeing a miracle, Peter fell down before Jesus and cried out, “Go away from me, Lord; for I am a sinful man!” (5:8). That’s the right response! But it’s only half the picture.

God is not out to punish us because He is holy and we’re messy. He wants to take away our mess (V.7). A few years ago I saw the mess of my own sin. I was crushed, broken and scared—until I also saw the amazing love of God, and His power to forgive me and make me clean again (1 JOHN 1:9).

God shows us His holiness not to break us, but to show us our mess and remove it forever. Ask Him to clean you today.

To Pray About . . .

Father, clean me and take my guilt away so that I can live close to You forever!

WHEN GOD SHOWS US OUR SIN, IT’S SO WE WILL ASK FOR HIS FORGIVENESS.
