Day 1 Bible Reading: 1 Peter 1:10-16
Start With One Step
What’s the most difficult thing you’ve been told to do? A long essay to write? To say sorry to a friend? How about: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
What? How can we ever be as perfect, loving and holy as God? But there it is in the Bible (LEV. 11:44; 1 PET. 1:16). After all, the reason we trust Jesus as our Saviour is because we are anything but holy. “All have sinned”, says Romans 3:23.
We may never fully understand how we can become more like God. But His promise to us is that, as we listen to the Holy Spirit and let Him lead us, we will slowly grow to be more like Jesus.
Taking one step at a time helps. For example, is there something you know you do, say or think that doesn’t show God’s love and holiness? Maybe you’re quick to judge others. Or you have a secret obsession. Tackle that area today. Talk to God about it. Ask for His forgiveness. Then, by His power, start moving on from it.
Step by step, come closer to Jesus and let your life become all about Him. After all, it’s not our own holiness we’re trying to achieve—we want to live more and more in His!
