Day 4 Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 1:1,12-17
Titles
Identities are important. “Teacher”, “Parent”, “Coach”, “Friend”. These kinds of titles help us know how we should treat others.
In the Bible, Paul was often given titles, such as “apostle” (1 TIM. 1:1), meaning “sent one”. He didn’t earn that position; it was “by the commandment of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus” (V.1). In other words, God made him an apostle.
Before he trusted Jesus, Paul had been a “blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man” (V.13). He said that he felt he had been the “worst” of sinners (V.15). But because of God’s mercy, he was now an apostle, someone who “the King eternal” (V.17) had directly given the message of Jesus to for him to share with the world.
What is more amazing is that, like the apostle Paul, we are all sent out by the King of kings to the world (MATT. 28:18-20; ACTS 1:8). Our title is “Witness”. We have experienced God’s saving love first hand! Let’s remember that we don’t deserve such a position with God either. It is an amazing thing to be allowed to represent Him and His love to the people around us.
