Day 1 Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 7:7-14
The Power of Prayer
One day, when I was really worried about someone I knew, I happened to read a story about Samuel, a wise leader of the Israelites, in the OldTestament. As I read how Samuel prayed for God’s people as they faced trouble, I decided to pray for the person I was stressing over.
The Israelites faced the threat of the Philistines, who had beaten them before when they hadn’t trusted in God (SEE 1 SAM. 4). After saying sorry to God, they heard that the Philistines were about to attack again. This time they asked Samuel to continue praying for them (7:8), and God answered clearly by confusing their enemy (V.10). Though the Philistines may have been stronger than the Israelites, God was stronger than all of them
When we are worried about the problems our friends and family are facing, we might start to think that God won’t do anything. But we should never forget the power of prayer, for our loving God hears everything we say to Him. We don’t know how He will answer us, but we know that as our Father He wants us to know His love and to trust in His faithfulness.
Do you have someone you can pray for today?
