Week 87 Bible Reading: Mark 14:43–50
Was Jesus Ever Lonely?
You can have tons of friends on social media but still feel lonely. Why? God created us for close, face-to-face interactions, and if we don’t get that, we can get lonely. Even if we’re connecting with a bazillion friends digitally.
Jesus knows what it’s like to be lonely. He was rejected, laughed at, pushed aside. Even his best friends left Him all alone on the absolute worst day of His life, the day He died on the cross. Yet, He always had one Friend who was always there for Him—His Father.
He told His disciples: “You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me” (John 16:32 NIV).
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus made it possible for us to be friends with His Father too! We still live in a broken, imperfect world. At times, we’ll still feel lonely. But our heavenly Father promises to watch over us, to guide us, and to always be there for us, and in fact, He’s overjoyed just to spend time with us.
Even if you’re lonely, know you’re never alone.
Jesus, whenever I feel sad, rejected, or alone, help me to remember that You are always with me.
