Week 86 Bible Reading: Proverbs 4:20–27
Heart Stuff
Did you know that your heart pumps about two thousand gallons of blood each day? That means every day your heart creates enough energy to drive a car twenty miles. Wow. And in your lifetime? You create enough energy to drive to the moon and back. That’s pretty amazing! A healthy heart can do incredible things, but if your heart fails, your whole body shuts down.
The Bible talks a lot about your “spiritual heart.” Just like your physical heart, your spiritual heart keeps you up and running, except the spiritual heart doesn’t pump blood. No! The spiritual heart is that central place inside of you where you think, feel, and make choices.
Because it’s so important, the Bible tells us to “guard [our] heart[s]” (Proverbs 4:23 NIV). So, stay away from trouble. Don’t talk badly about others. And do the right thing. By listening to God and doing what He says, you’ll keep your spiritual heart in great shape.
Jesus, teach me to listen to You and do what You say, so that I can avoid trouble.
