Week 85 Bible Reading: Acts 1:4–5, 8–9
Meet Your Guest
If someone visits your house for a week, your parents will likely want to know everything about this person. (They are wise.) In the Bible, Jesus himself has provided a description of the new person moving in to—or who has already moved in to—your house!
That’s right! You have a new houseguest. Here are three important things Jesus thought you should know to get acquainted:
1. He helps out. Your parents will be very pleased to know your new guest isn’t messy. (Whew.) In fact, your friend’s entire purpose is to help you (John 14:16–17)! (One of His names is Helper.) His biggest joy? Making you be all God created you to be!
2. He gives great advice. Are you struggling to make a good choice? You can go to your friend for wisdom (John 14:26). (Another name of His is Counselor.)
3. He’s staying forever. Once you invite your friend in, He’s never leaving (John 14:16). It’s true. If He were annoying? A big problem, indeed! But your friend is hard not to like; He wants what’s best for you. He’s always watching out for you. He will never fail you. (He’s for you.)
So, who’s this amazing new guest? The Holy Spirit—one of the three Persons of God. When you invite Jesus into your heart and life, the Holy Spirit moves in. Permanently.
Your heart, in fact, becomes His home address.
Jesus, thanks for sending Your Holy Spirit to live inside of me. He’s awesome—a Helper, Counselor, and Friend. I’ll listen to Him!
