Week 84 Bible Reading: Revelation 21:3–5
One Hundred Year Camping Trip
Have you ever gone camping? What an adventure. You get to build campfires, explore the woods, and—best of all— eat s’mores! But sleeping in a tent can be uncomfortable, especially on a rainy night. The next morning, you may wake up in a soggy sleeping bag. Yikes.
Most of us can “rough it” in a tent for a couple of days.
Imagine, though, sleeping in a tent for a hundred years. That’s exactly what Abraham, one of the heroes of the Bible, did. When Abraham was seventy-five years old, God told him to leave his country, so Abraham packed up and traveled to a new land, living the rest of his life—until he was one hundred seventy-five years old—in tents. What an incredibly long camping trip.
Why did Abraham not mind camping out for one hundred years? Because he was excited about a heavenly home. God is readying a place for you too! A home in which you’ll experience His love and joy, His beauty and goodness, His hope and peace, forever and ever. A place where you will no longer be sad, or lonely, or afraid. A place where you will celebrate with Him for all eternity.
It’ll be like coming home after a really long camping trip.
Jesus, thank You for my home—a place to eat, sleep, and do homework. My home here is such a gift. I’m also excited about my forever home that You’re preparing for me!
