Day 4 Bible Reading: Amos 4:7-13
1,000th Birthday
-Amos 4:12
I read a book the other day which said scientists are close to massively lengthening our lives. Some reckon that soon they will be able to offer us 1,000 year life spans!
But what difference does it make if, after living 1,000 years, we will still die anyway? Long lives don’t beat death, they just delay it. It’s still not the answer we need.
The Bible tells us that death is not the end. Instead, we are promised that everyone will stand before Jesus. Those who trust Him will be welcomed into heaven, His home. Those who rejected Him will face His judgement (JOHN 5:25-29; REV. 20:11-15). All of us are in need of forgiveness. And only Jesus’ death on the cross has given that forgiveness to all who turn to Him (ROM. 3:23 & 6:23). “People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement” (HEB. 9:27).
This future meeting with God puts everything into perspective. So whether we live 70 years or 1,000, the Bible gives us all the same message: “prepare to meet your God” (AMOS 4:12).
