Taking Risks
So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul—men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. - Acts 15:25–26
This may be the best title ever for a book: Stuntman! My Car-Crashing, Plane-Jumping, Bone-Breaking, Death-Defying Hollywood Life. It was written by a stuntman named Hal Needham, who has slugged it out in fist fights, raced cars at high speed, walked on wings of airborne planes, and even been set on fire! He risks his life to entertain film audiences.
Now, Paul and Barnabas in the Bible were no stuntmen, but they “risked their lives” (Acts 15:26). They weren’t doing it to make movies. Their goal was to exalt Christ through the preaching of the gospel. As a missionary in the Roman Empire, Paul faced shipwrecks, beatings, persecution, and imprisonment—just to name a few (2 Corinthians 11:22–30). But Paul was more than willing to take these risks to tell other people about Jesus.
If Paul could go through all that, what are we willing to do to tell our friends about Jesus? Ask God for the courage to mention to a friend that you love Jesus. Taking the risk will be well worth it.
Fun Fact
Tom Cruise, who does his own stunts, once hung on a rope from the world’s tallest building while making a movie.
Just You and God
“This is scary, Lord. I’m afraid to tell my friends about you. Help me have courage and help me think of some good things to say to them?”
