Who Are You?
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” - Matthew 4:19
If someone were to ask, “Who are you?” my guess is that you would say—”I’m a sixthgrader” or “I play football.” But that’s not really who you are.
Who you are is based in your relationship to Jesus. If you have trusted Jesus, you are a Christian first of all.
Who you are will control the things you do.
Take the Bible character Matthew, for example. At first, he was a tax collector. In those days, that meant he was greedy and unfair. But everything changed the day Jesus showed up and invited Matthew to follow Him (Matthew 9:9). Suddenly, Matthew had a whole new identity. He became a follower of Christ!
If that’s what you are, Jesus wants to make something amazing of your life. And that happens when you try to live the way He asks us to do in the Bible.
Next time someone asks, “Who are you?” answer, “I’m a follower of Jesus!” And live for Him every day. Your friends will notice.
Fun Fact
“Who Am I?” is a fun game to play with your friends. Think of a famous athlete or other person and start giving clues until someone guesses. For instance: “I played basketball for Davidson.” “My dad played in the NBA.” “I like to shoot threes.” Who Am I? Did you guess Steph Curry?
