Greatest Gift
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. - John 3:16–17
She should’ve gotten a ticket. When the police officer stopped her, the mom had been driving with her daughter, who wasn’t in a car seat. The law called for the car seat. But the mom had been struggling to make ends meet—and couldn’t afford one. Instead of fining them, the officer told the mom and daughter to meet him at the nearby mall. There, he bought them the needed car seat. What an amazing example of generosity.
God’s generosity is like that to us, only on a much bigger scale! Our sins—when we act, think, and do things that go against God’s best for us—make us guilty too. The Bible says, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8). God loved us so much that He sent Jesus to Earth to give us the incredible gift of grace, wiping out our guilt from sin for all time! Not only that, but through His actions, Jesus made us “friends of God” (v. 11).
Now that’s truly the greatest gift.
Jesus, thank You for loving me so much that You sacrificed Your life on a cross to free me from my sins. Now that’s the best gift ever!
