Together Is Better!
Sian Welch and Wendy Ingraham were all-stars. They were competing in the Ironman Triathlon, a one hundred forty mile race of swimming, biking, and running that only the toughest and bravest athletes ever dare try! And not only were they competing in it; they were about to finish strong.
In fact, the finish line was in view.
Exhausted, the runners persevered on wobbly legs, until Welch bumped into Ingraham. Each dropped to the ground. Struggling to stand up, they fell again—just a few feet from the finish line. But these two champion athletes weren’t giving up. No way! Ingraham began crawling, so did Welch. The crowd roared as Ingraham crossed the finish line in fourth place, everyone surrounding her to give her hugs.
Instead of staying to enjoy their praise, she did something unexpected. She turned around, reaching out her hand to her competitor. Welch lunged forward, grabbing Ingraham’s outstretched hand. Together, they crossed the finish line. And the crowd went wild!
Sometimes we need help to finish strong (Ecclesiastes 4:9). That’s normal. At one time or another, we all fall, whether physically or emotionally. It’s amazing to know we’re not alone as we press in. Just as our loving Father helps us, we can help others too! By reaching out to them, we can let them know they’re not alone.
