Choropoly
Every Saturday night, the Johnson family comes together to play Monopoly. But their version is called Choropoly. That’s because the kids can earn Monopoly money throughout the week by doing chores. If they make their beds or wash the dishes, they can collect more money—helping them buy more properties during the Monopoly game. But if they forget to do their chores? They lose that money, and, often, their chance to win. For the Johnsons, it literally pays to do chores!
Getting paid in Monopoly money makes chores more fun. But we can breathe a sigh of relief that God’s love doesn’t work like that. Think about it: We can’t earn—or lose—God’s love. Ever. God doesn’t love you more when you make your bed, ... get perfect grades, ... perform your piano solo perfectly, ... or are very good. He also doesn’t love you any less if your room is a mess, ... you lie, ... or you fail all your tests.
God’s love is a free gift. All you have to do is accept it.
