The Roaring Lion
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. - 1 Peter 5:8–9
The last time you visited the zoo, what were the lions up to? Likely, they were taking their catnaps (they like their beauty sleep—just like us). In the wild, lions can’t sleep all the time if they want to survive. They have to hunt. And what stealthy hunters they are: when they see a zebra or antelope or gazelle, they crouch in the tall grass, creep forward, and—pounce—they attack.
The Bible tells us that Satan—the devil—is like “a roaring lion” (1 Peter 5:8). A sneaky hunter, he attacks us when we’re already tired or scared or lonely, whenever we’re vulnerable. Here’s some good news: one day King Jesus will defeat him for good.
Until that day, be on your guard against your Enemy and his lies. But don’t be afraid. If you’re ever attacked, just say, “In Jesus’s name, go away.” The devil will scram (James 4:7). The devil is a predator, yes. But here’s the thing, he’s no match for your Savior. With Jesus alive inside of you, you are protected from the roaring lion.
