Lesson of the Horse Mask
For [you] are God’s masterpiece. He has created [you] anew in Christ Jesus, so [you] can do the good things he planned for [you] long ago. - Ephesians 2:10
Have you ever seen horses wearing masks? To be honest, they look a little silly wearing them. You may even wonder how they can see with a mask covering their eyes. Made of mesh, the masks actually allow horses to see straight through them—while keeping flies out. And it’s the flies that spread nasty eye diseases to horses. That’s why the masks don’t blind the horses; they protect them from going blind!
We could think something similar about the Bible as could be assumed about those masks. The Bible’s guidance can seem like it keeps us from seeing, and joining in on, all the fun! But it’s the opposite. Just like those masks protect horses from going blind, the Bible’s wisdom keeps us from being infected by lies that make us blind to good things—especially God’s amazing plans for us.
The Bible tells us, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10). Through the Bible and prayer, God opens our eyes to what life is really about!
