Stop Worrying!
Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? - Matthew 6:26–27
Birds sometimes go to extreme measures to get lunch. But the bird with the strangest lunch preparation of all? First prize goes to the Bassian thrush. The bird farts—causing the worms beneath them to wiggle out from under their leaves. (Probably just to get away from that stinky smell.) And, just like that, for the little bird, lunch is served! Bizarre, right?
Did you know that Jesus talks about birds and their lunches? He says, “Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6:26–27).
Jesus’s message to us? Stop worrying! If I’ve got the birds covered—even the farting Bassian thrush—I’ve definitely got you too (as you’re way more important than a bird).
Think about it: Your heavenly Father cared so much about the Bassian thrush that He thought up a crazy—zany—plan just so that they could get lunch. If your heavenly Father went to such great lengths to help out the Bassian thrush, He’s not going to forget about you.
He’s going to move heaven and earth to solve your problems and to take care of each of your needs. He loves you that much.
