Week 30 Bible Reading: Mark 14:3–9

The Crazy-Expensive Gift

A woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. - Mark 14:3 (NIV)

In the Bible there’s a story about a gift—a crazy-expensive one. A jar of perfume worth more than $20,000—wow! If you had a body spray that expensive, would you put it on every day? No way! Most of us would lock that perfume away, in a very special drawer, wearing it on only the fanciest occasions.

That’s what makes the Gift-Giver’s action so shocking. In one sitting, the Gift-Giver emptied it. Pouring it out over the One she loved with all her heart.

“What a waste!” cried out everyone in the room, except One.

Jesus—the One who received the gift—knew she was telling Him how much she loved Him. And He loved her, and her gift, with all His heart.

What ways can you show Jesus you love Him? It doesn’t matter if you’re singing a song, . . . studying for a test, . . . drawing a picture, . . . or helping a brother or sister. Anything and everything can be a gift for Jesus, when given out of a heart of love.

God loves your gifts—and you—with all His heart.

How do you want to show Jesus that you love Him?
Jesus, whatever I do can become a gift for You if it’s done in love—and I love You with all my heart.
