Day 1 Bible Reading: Psalm 46
A Safe Place
Me and my brothers grew up on a wooded hillside. It was a great place to run and play. Whether swinging from branches like Tarzan or building tree houses, we acted out stories from movies and made up our own games. One of our favourites was building forts and then looking out for ‘attacks’.
It seems to come naturally to many of us to want to have, or make, safe hiding places for ourselves.
When David, a songwriter and the king of Israel, needed a safe place, he went straight to God. Psalm 46:1-2 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.” When we think about the Old Testament stories of David’s life and the threats, dangers and problems he faced, these words show an amazing confidence in God. Even though he was so often in trouble, he was sure his true safety was found in God.
We can know that same confidence. The God who promises to never leave or forsake us (HEB. 13:5) is the One we trust with our lives every day.
No matter what happens today, God is with us. We can be confident in Him—both now and forever.

To Pray About . . .
Lord, I am thankful that I have You. In times of trouble, I will hold on to the truth that You are my refuge and strength. You will never leave or forsake me. Amen
