The King's Special Mark
“I will honor you, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, my servant. I will make you like a signet ring on my finger,” says the Lord, “for I have chosen you. I, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!” - Haggai 2:23
Do you sign your name with big, swirly letters? Or is your handwriting just right, with all the letters perfectly inside the lines? However you write it, your signature is unique to you. Your special mark.
In ancient times, the king wouldn’t sign his name. Nope. Instead, he would stamp his signature using a special ring—a signet ring. It had a one-of-a-kind royal symbol: the king’s special mark. If you received a letter with this special mark, you knew that it carried the power of the king—and the entire kingdom—behind it. (It carried lots of power!)
In today’s Bible reading, God says to the governor Zerubbabel, “I will make you like a signet ring on my finger” (Haggai 2:23). What did God mean? The King of the universe (God) had given Zerubbabel His special mark of strength. Power to do God’s special work. Whoa.
You have God’s special mark too! Yes, really. When you follow Him, God gives you His one-of-a-kind special mark—His strength—to do God’s amazing work on Earth. You’re like God’s very own signet ring. (Now, that’s a lot of power!)
So be confident today: you’ve got the special mark of your King.
