A Fresh Start
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. - Lamentations 3:22–23 (NIV)
Have you ever read Anne of Green Gables? In the classic book, everyone’s favorite orphan Anne learns to adjust to life with her new adoptive parents—with hilarious mishaps, mistakes, and many, many adventures along the way!
In one funny part, Anne is baking a cake: by mistake, she adds medicine instead of vanilla. Oh no! Once everyone tries her cake and discovers her big mistake, she says cheerily, “Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”
How encouraging! We all make mistakes, but tomorrow is a new day—a fresh start. The Bible says, “[God’s mercies] are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:23). Even when we mess up, we can always begin again.
What if you’ve made an unwise choice? Don’t beat yourself up about it. Instead, talk to God. Say that you’re sorry. He’ll forgive you, and tomorrow is a brand-new day, a fresh start!
