Gift-Giving God
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! - Matthew 7:11 NIV
The two weeks before Christmas, Sophia had secretly inspected each and every gift under the Christmas tree. So when Sophia’s mom handed Sophia the gift with the sparkly silver wrapping paper on Christmas morning, she gasped. She recognized the gift, but it wasn’t hers. The note, which was no longer there, had been addressed to her mom.
Seeing the excitement in her mother’s eyes, she went ahead and opened the gift: a stylish pink blow-dryer, something Sophia had wanted all year!
While struggling to pay the bills, Sophia’s mom had still wanted to make Christmas special. So she’d given her own gift to her daughter. But if you’d been there that Christmas morning, you wouldn’t have known who gave or received the gift—because both Sophia’s and her mom’s smiles were so big!
God loves giving us gifts too. In fact, the Bible says your heavenly Father is the best gift-giver: “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9–12 NIV).
Because your heavenly Father is incredibly generous, you can go confidently to Him asking for what you need. He may surprise you with something better than what you could ask for (Ephesians 3:20).
