Week 2: When I feel I lacked

Day 4 Bible Reading: John 6:25-40

Hunger

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry (V.35).

Sat in the back of the car, I was flicking through my emails on my phone when I got a new message. It was an ad from a doughnut shop—a doughnut shop we’d only just driven past! Suddenly I was super hungry!

As I clicked off my email, I couldn’t help thinking about how God wants to draw me closer. He always knows where I am and wants to guide my choices. I thought, Do I growl in hunger for Him the way my stomach did over the idea of a doughnut?

In John 6, after Jesus fed five thousand people with just a packed lunch, His friends asked Him to always give them “the bread that . . . gives life to the world” (V.33). Jesus answered in verse 35, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” How amazing that a relationship with Jesus can give us everything we need and fill us up completely! He will fully satisfy us in a way that food and other stuff never can.

God’s understanding of who I am and what I need helps me to realise only He can give me what I really want in life.
