Day 2 Bible Reading: Joshua 13:8-33
The Best Inheritance
After my grandad died, a friend asked if he’d left anything to me. She was shocked when I said he had donated his money to charity, leaving only some personal belongings to his family. My friend was upset about this, but I wasn’t. I was proud of what he had given me: an example of kindness and generosity. During his life—and my grandmother’s—he taught us to love and care for others with everything we have. His example of generosity is much more important to me than any money he could have left.
God gave the Levites a special inheritance too. After Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, it was shared among the tribes according to what Moses had said years before. “But to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; the Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance” (JOSH. 13:33). God gave land to eleven of the tribes, which would be used for raising crops and livestock. But God gave something very different to the tribe of Levi: He gave them Himself! Rather than growing their own food, they were to directly trust God to provide for their needs while they worked in the temple (V.14).
This is the inheritance God gives to all His children: the right to depend on Him for everything! Who can you encourage to rely more on God today?
