What Stinks?
The house smelled like something was burning. Worried, eight-year-old Madelyn followed her nose to the kitchen. Nothing was in the oven. Her investigation led her upstairs, right to her bedroom door. Madelyn peeked inside her room. There, peering back at her with big eyes pleading for help, was Luna, her dog. That “burning” smell now had the distinct odor of . . . a skunk. The poor dog had gone to the corner of Madelyn’s house to escape the smell, but she couldn’t get away from herself!
We often try to run away from a “stinky problem” too—only to discover the problem is us! Our hearts can give off some seriously funky odors, with scents of jealousy, greed, meanness, and more.
Such “odors” are powerful. Jesus, though, can clean out your heart if you ask him to (Psalm 51:10).
Are you detecting some funky fumes? No matter how stinky your heart attitude, give it to Jesus. He wants you to feel fresh and clean again!
Jesus, You see everything going on inside of me; please clean out my heart, and make me more like You.
