"Not My Kind"
In the original Star Wars trilogy, there’s a scene that can remind us of some church people. At a place to eat somewhere in a far corner of the galaxy, odd-looking creatures chat over food and music. When Luke Skywalker enters with his two droids, C-3PO and R2-D2 (who are more “normal” than anyone else there), he is surprisingly turned away: “We don’t serve their kind here!” they are told.
That strange scene captures a problem we all struggle with—getting along with others. We feel more relaxed with people who are just like us.
Those of us who follow Christ should never say, “They’re not my kind.” Paul reminds us that we “are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). So even if someone has a different attitude, race, or social standing, it shouldn’t matter to us as Christians.
Here’s an idea. If you find someone who is “not your kind,” tell that person about Jesus!
