Not long ago we moved to a new home round the corner from our old one. Even though it was so close, we still needed to load all of our stuff onto a removals van to make sure we could get everything moved quickly while the money was changing hands. Between the sale and purchase, our furniture and boxes stayed on the van and our family camped out in a bed and breakfast. During that time, I was surprised how ‘at home’ I felt even though we were in between homes. I think it was because I was still with my family.

For part of his life, David had nowhere to call home. He lived life on the run from King Saul. David was God’s chosen king, so Saul saw him as a threat and tried to kill him. David ran from his home and slept wherever he found shelter. Even though he had friends with him, what David really wanted was to “dwell in the house of the Lord”—to enjoy being with Him
forever (PS. 27:4).

Jesus understood not having a home while He was on earth (LUKE 9:58). How amazing it is to know that He lives in us (1 COR. 3:16); He is always with us and can give us a sense of home no matter where we are. He is with us in the good or bad times. He is preparing a place for us to live with Him forever (JOHN 14:3).
