Worst Homework Assignment Ever
What would you do if you had a homework assignment that lasted more than a year? How about ten years? Forty years? If homework assignments were ranked, surely this would be the worst homework assignment ever.
In the Old Testament, God gave Moses a homework assignment just like that. His task? To guide grumpy people for more than forty years in a blazing hot desert, leading them home to God’s Promised Land. That’s a long time! In a hot desert. With grumpy people.
(Poor Moses.)
Moses was able to do the impossible because “the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Exodus 33:11 NIV). Through God’s friendship, Moses completed his home- work assignment and got those grumpy people home.
Each day, God has homework for us. Sometimes our assignments appear small. Maybe yours is being kind to your brother or sis- ter. If your sibling, though, is anything like the Israelites—a bit grumpy—then you have a big assignment disguised as a small one. Whatever the size of your task, you need God’s help to finish it.
Spend time talking with your heavenly Father, as Moses did. Through His power alive in you, you’ll do the seemingly impossible too.
